DESIGNING AND USING HIGH-QUALITY RUBRICS FOR 21ST CENTURY SKILLS-
A practical interactive workshop with ideas you can immediately use

This engaging session will provide you with high-impact tools and ideas for creating really good rubrics – high-quality rubrics. If you run to Rubistar to get the rubrics you need, then we need to talk. If you download rubrics from the Internet and use them, then we need to talk. If you’re using rubrics that come with your textbook series, then we need to talk. Come for an enjoyable day of learning and working – with your curriculum and 21st Century skills.

Learning Targets

• Identify key terms related to performance-based assessments and 21st Century Skills.
• Explain the relationship between tight alignment and high student achievement.
• Describe grade-level alignment.
• Explain a method for unpacking standards.
• Identify standards and 21st Century skills that need to be unpacked.
• Identify the cognitive match for standards and enabling objectives.
• Explain how to use an instructional model to ensure curriculum alignment.
• Identify the features of a high-quality rubric.
• Differentiate between analytic and holistic rubrics.
• Distinguish between task-general and task-specific rubrics.
• Use data from a rubric to differentiate learning for students.
• Create a high-quality rubric that measures a 21st Century Skill.
• Plan to use the rubric you design to improve student achievement.
• Use a rubric to provide feedback and guidance to students.

Get the Most from the Day’s Training

• Bring a rubric or two that you’d like to work on during the training program.
• Bring a laptop if you’d like. This is certainly not required, but many people enjoy developing rubrics on a laptop.


Practical Strategies Maximizing Student Achievement in Math

The workshop is structured to appeal to teachers from Grades 3 through Algebra 2. It will focus on effective strategies to use between now and SOL testing to increase student engagement and understanding (rather than memorization.) Examples that model the strategies will come from a variety of grade-levels.
