Virginia ASCD 2009-2010
Professional Development Institutes |
Plans for 2009-2010 Professional Development Institutes are underway and
will be informed by the results of our spring membership survey; however, we
will be offering a series of PDIs focused on the use of social networks to
build professional learning communities and ways in web 2.0 tools can be
used to advance excellence in teaching, learning, and leadership. Join us
for a kickoff to this focus when
Meg Ormiston brings her expertise to Richmond:
"Paper Trained Teachers in
a Video Game World"
with Meg Ormiston

DoubleTree Richmond Airport
Today’s students learn through engagement and interactivity, yet in many
classrooms they are asked to sit still and take notes. Their brains crave
multimedia, simulations, and tackling tough problems beyond the learning of
factoids of information presented on the chapter test. This session is
about instruction, technology, and the urgency we all need to feel about
true engagement in the classroom. Explore the amazing world of Web 2.0 and
the powerful ways you can make connections through technology and leave this
research-based session with practical strategies you can take back and
implement immediately. You will leave this institute with new strategies,
tools, and an online collection of resources to share with your entire
staff.
Audience: K-12 teachers, administrators, and curriculum specialists.
